Representative Don Bacon, a Republican from Nebraska, did not hold back in his condemnation. Taking to social media, he declared, “The Trump Administration royally screwed up today on Ukraine.” Bacon emphasized that a significant majority of Americans support principles of independence, liberty, and free markets, directly opposing the actions of what he termed a "bully and invader." His comments were made after the U.S. cast a vote against a U.N. General Assembly resolution that condemned Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, demanding its withdrawal and accountability for alleged war crimes. Instead, shortly thereafter, the U.S. approved a Security Council resolution calling for peace in Ukraine, which notably refrained from explicitly condemning Russia. This move led several key U.S. allies, including Britain and France, to abstain from voting.

Senator John Curtis from Utah, another Republican, joined in the criticism. He expressed his deep concern over the United States’ shift in foreign policy, stating that it starkly contrasts with American ideals of freedom and democracy.
